North Carolina or Bust!

Howdy y'all! I had the best weekend that I have had in a long time. I can't remember the last time that I laughed myself to sleep 2 nights in a row. I had a blast at my friend Carin's wedding. The wedding was located near the Tennessee/North Carolina border, in the middle of nowhere, however it was absolutely purdy. The ceremony was on their ranch where Carin and Steve live and the reception was in the barn that they recently built. I'm so happy that I was able to see Carin take vows to be Steve's wife and Brett's mom. This weeks blog is all about last weekend, get ready to laugh y'all!

On Friday night Carin and Steve decided to have a pig roast for their rehearsal dinner. The pig smelled great but it was so ugly laying spread eagle on the grill looking ornery. When dinner was ready a couple girls flipped that pig over and went to town tearing the meat off the bones. These girls knew what they wanted and knew how to get it.

Late Friday night Julie finally made it into town and once she arrived we were fixin' to have a good time. Even though we didn't get back to the ranch till near midnight we were ready to laugh and catch up on old times. We stayed up that night laughing and piddlin' around. We finally started to fall asleep and the next thing you know we had a little critter, (cricket) chirping at us, we were fit to be tied. Brian, Carin's brother, being the gentleman that he is, tried to kill it but was unsuccessful.

The next morning we all helped get ready for the wedding. During the wedding ceremony the guests were to sit on bails of hay covered by quilts. It was my job to lay these quilts over the hay. I can't explain how beautiful these quilts were, there must have been at least 50 of them. I can't tell you how much time must have been spent on these, and how magnificent each one was. Carin is truly amazing at decorating. She had everything planned out and we just followed directions.
When the time came we all went back up to the house and got ready. Carin looked so beautiful in her dress. The guests arrived at 4:00 and the ceremony started at 4:30. Carin walked down the hay path while some local kids were playing their banjos, it was awesome. Julie was the officiant and she did a fabulous job. I'm glad that I was able to wear sunglasses because I cried throughout the ceremony. After the ceremony we all gathered in the barn for dinner and dancing.
Dinner was great, we had everything from sushi to prime rib. After dinner was over it was time to dance. The local girls got all riled up, kicked off their boots, put on their clogging shoes and tore up the dance floor. I've never seen anything like it, these girls were fit as a fiddle and I was mesmerized by their dancing skills. During the reception Carin's mom, Brian, and I yondered up to the house to decorate Carin and Steve's bedroom. A couple of hours after we returned we realized that Brian never took the keys out of the ignition when we got back, and the car had been running for all that time. Brian had obviously been drinking more than I thought. That brings me to the subject of moonshine. Moonshine was served from mason jars, and Carin gave away moonshine jello shooters. After the local girls took off there clogging shoes I had a hankering to make it onto the dance floor lickety split. We nearabout danced all night, and after the band had to leave we pulled a truck into the barn, popped in a Justin Timberlake CD and kept on dancing.

Julie and I had such a good time together, it brought back a lot of memories of all the crazy times we spent together when we were younger. A few of Carin and Steve's guests assumed that Julie was a preacher or something because she married Carin and Steve. They kept asking her where her church was because they wanted to join! A man even came up to Julie and asked her opinion if he should marry his girlfriend of 10 years. She said, "go for it!" Julie said if she had a church it was probably be called, The Church of Sin.

That night after the reception we went back to Carin's home and had a blast. After we went to bed Julie, Brian and I laughed until we couldn't breath, (we all slept in the same room). I reckoned I peed my pants a few times but I was too cold to get out of bed to find out.

The people that I met in North Carolina are down right good people, even though some of them wore overalls and ball caps or florescent orange hunting hats to a wedding, chewed tobacco all night, and blew turkey calls during the reception. It was a pleasure meeting Steve's family and they always made me feel welcome. Steve has a great son and I hope that one day my boys will be as polite as he is. I still don't know Steve very well but it seems that Carin has a great catch. This weekend was a blast.

I obviously couldn't have attended this wedding without Tait's help. He took the boys for the weekend and didn't complain too much. He sure had his hands full. I'm so thankful for him, and even though North Carolina was hunkey dorey it was great to be back home where I feel snug as a bug.
